A Forceful Voice for Investors
The Council’s mission is to address corporate governance and investment issues of importance to our members. Founded in 1985, the Council is a premier advocacy group, highly respected for its role in improving corporate accountability and strengthening shareowner rights.

Improving Corporate Governance
Many of the Council’s corporate governance policies, once considered radical, are now in the mainstream. Principles that we championed over time—from director independence to clear links between executive pay and company performance—have been adopted by U.S. companies; enshrined in regulation, legislation and stock exchange listing standards; and emulated abroad.

Influencing Public Policy
The Council works closely with Congress, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Accounting Standards Board, stock exchanges and other legislative and regulatory bodies to protect the interests of long-term shareowners.

Serving the Needs of Our Members
A key benefit of Council membership is the opportunity for pension fund trustees and staff to meet and share experiences with peers and other investment professionals. The Council also provides in-depth research and analysis on financial topics and top-caliber speakers at member meetings and other events.

-The Council works to elevate corporate governance awareness, advocate policies that protect shareowners and champion core issues of interest to our members.
