The Council has long advocated that boards should adopt actions recommended in shareowner proposals that receive a majority of votes cast for and against. Since 1998, the Council has annually monitored majority-vote-winning shareowner proposals and pressed for action. The Council sends letters to each company on the majority-vote list urging adoption of the shareowner supported changes. Many companies respond and take action on the proposals. Boards that fail to act, however, become candidates for follow-up letters co-signed by Council members that have volunteered to add their voice.
