Voice your concerns on proposed legislation that would limit pension fund investments: When Congress returns from its August recess it is expected to again take up S. 3268, the Stop Excessive Speculation Act of 2008 (see summary and text here) and H.R. 6604, the Commodity Markets Transparency and Accountability Act of 2008 (see summary and text here). Both S. 3268, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada), and H.R. 6604, sponsored by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin C. Peterson (D-Minnesota), include provisions that would place limits on the ability of pension funds to invest in commodity related instruments.
On June 24, the Council’s board of directors approved a statement raising concerns about the impact on pension fund beneficiaries of legislation that would restrict the ability of funds to invest in commodity based securities to diversity their investment portfolios and hedge against inflation (click here to view the statement). The Council staff has shared the statement with key members of Congress and their staffs (view correspondence here).
The Council encourages all members to express their views on S. 3268 and H.R. 6604 with your Members of Congress as soon as possible.
