This teleconference expanded on CII’s report “Buyer Beware: Chinese Companies and the VIE Structure” by exploring the structural and operational risks of investing in U.S.-listed Chinese companies. Robert Kry of MoloLamken discussed pending class action securities litigation against Alibaba, and Carson Block of Muddy Waters Research discussed his new short of China Internet Nationwide Financial Services, a Chinese company that IPO’d on the NASDAQ in 2017. Participants also discussed what regulatory steps could be taken to mitigate these risks.
